CHAIN OF COMMAND - Winter Germans (Part One)

After the recent Korsun Pocket game at the Deeside Defenders Gauntlet Weekend I have really got interested in the Chain of Command rules. Andy Canham very kindly picked me up some German Mountain Troops from Britannia at a recent show which I couldn't get to due to work commitments. I had originally planned to use them for my Costa Verde setting but after the Korsun Pocket game I thought I would paint up what I have to represent a ragtag Gebirgsjager platoon while I wait for the other bits to arrive that I need to finish the platoon. So here is my first Rifle Squad, just need to finish the bases and give them a coat of varnish.

Rifle Squad - One Junior Leader with MP40, Five Riflemen and One with St44

  2. In fact I'm so impressed with these figures on the Britannia web site I'm going to raise a platoon myself.

    Cheers, Andy

    1. They are great figures. I have sent you a link to a site with some useful Chain of Command info for Mountain Troops etc

    2. I've been reading that some of the Mountain Troops platoons had more St.44's towards the end of the war. There are photos of squads all carrying them!

    3. I notice in the list you sent me you have the option for 1 point to add 3 SMG or assault rifles, so for 2 points you could equip all the riflemen in a squad with assault rifles. Sounds good if there are photos to support that, presumably they came in handy in assaults, either on the giving or receiving end.

      Cheers, Andy

    4. I wouldn't plan to mix Britannia infantry with anyone else's 20mm figures. They suffer from a severe case of megalocephaly (big head syndrome).

    5. That's the only problem as I personally like Britannia figures but they don't mix and you sometimes have a problem with units as they don't make the particular figure you need.

  3. A nice start, Richard. You'll be fighting for the Caucasus in no time.

    1. Thanks Richard, the more I look into the rules the more I like them. Been watching the Lard Island videos on YouTube which run through the game mechanics. Got enough figures for another Rifle Squad so will get started on them while I wait for MG34's, Panzerfausts and a few more Riflemen to finish off the platoon.
